Why one chart cannot run every pool

A saltwater pool, trichlor-fed pool, liquid-chlorine pool, fiberglass pool, and newly plastered pool can have different operational priorities. Heater and salt-cell manufacturers may also specify water-balance limits that affect warranty or scaling/corrosion risk.

A single test is a snapshot. Record results so you can see whether pH always rises, chlorine disappears after sunny days, or alkalinity drifts after repeated acid additions. Trend-based maintenance is cheaper and more stable than reacting to every isolated test.

Direction and rate of change matter. A pH that rises every day, calcium hardness that climbs after each refill, cyanuric acid that steadily accumulates with stabilized chlorine, or salinity that disagrees with the generator display can reveal a recurring input before the number reaches an extreme.

Do not use the reference chart to calculate a chemical dose

A target range does not tell you how much of a particular product to add. Dose depends on pool volume, current measurement, target, active ingredient, concentration, and product instructions. Use a validated calculator only for the calculation it actually supports, and use the label as the authority for application and safety.

Retest after meaningful corrections

A large water replacement or chemical correction can move several measurements at once. Let the product or replacement water circulate as directed, then retest the variables that could have changed before making the next adjustment.
