How to lower pH safely
Use a pool-labeled pH reducer or acid appropriate to the system and surface.
Base the amount on current pH, pool volume, total alkalinity, product strength, and label instructions.
Add only as directed, with circulation configured as the label requires. Never mix acid with chlorine or other pool chemicals.
Allow adequate circulation, then retest before making another correction.
If pH keeps rising

Do not treat the chlorine reading separately from pH
CDC notes that as pH rises, chlorine becomes less effective at killing germs, especially above pH 8.0. That does not mean the answer is automatically more chlorine. Verify both free chlorine and pH, then correct the water using the sanitizer and balancing-product instructions for the pool.
Retest after the correction has circulated
Follow the pH-reducer label for application, circulation time, personal protective equipment, and any maximum single dose. After the product has dispersed as directed, retest before adding more.
