- Salt Level Too High in a Pool: What to DoConfirm the salinity with an independent test and compare it with the operating range for the exact generator. If the pool truly contains too much salt, stop adding salt. Current Pentair IntelliChlor Plus/LT guidance addresses high salinity by partially draining and refilling with fresh water until the pool returns to that system's recommended range. Do not copy Pentair's 3,600 ppm target to another brand; the correction target comes from the installed generator manual.
- When Should You Replace a Salt Cell?Do not replace a salt cell simply because free chlorine is low. First verify water chemistry, salinity, pump runtime and flow, output setting, and whether the cell actually needs cleaning. Pentair's current IntelliChlor Plus/LT guidance gives a much stronger replacement signal: if the system reports a Check Cell warning, the prescribed cleaning is completed, and the warning remains, Pentair says the blades are worn and the cell assembly needs replacement. Other brands use their own life indicators and diagnostics, so follow the installed system's procedure.
- Salt Cell Low-Flow or No-Flow Warning: What to Check FirstTreat a salt-cell low-flow warning as a circulation problem first, not proof of a failed flow switch. Pentair's current salt-cell FAQ says that when flow remains inadequate, owners should verify the pump is running at sufficient speed and check for basket debris, a clogged impeller, low pool water, suction air, valve position, a dirty filter, obstruction in the salt cell, or a faulty flow switch. Current IntelliChlor Plus/LT units also have model-specific minimum and maximum flow requirements. Start with the easy water-flow checks before ordering a sensor.
